Muscle-cars affected by dwarfism? It would seem so: the next Chevrolet Camaro should have smaller dimensions, like the Ford Mustang. In other words short, downsizing does not spare anyone. And so, the Camaro platform could change the future and be born on the Alpha platform for General Motors.
The next generation model, which will come into being until 2014, then will use this unprecedented platform to rear wheel drive. The Alpha platform “should debut in the Cadillac ATS, the average brand premium sedan from GM that we should see as a prototype by the end of the year and that will give life to a whole range of models (station, coupe and cabrio ) in the years to come.
GM will be three models to be born on the Alpha platform: besides Camaro and ATS, which exploit the “standard” version, also the heir of the CTS will share the same basis, although in a long wheelbase variant. The result of this innovation, as regards the Camaro will be a reduction in the total length of about 30 cm. Today the car measuring 484 cm in total. But there’s more.
